How fees work
Plain answers before you book. Call the front desk if yours is not here.
Insurance we work with
We are out of network with health plans, so we do not bill one for you. Some plans pay part of an out-of-network visit, and we help you ask.
You pay at the visit, then claim it back if your plan allows
Medicare and Medicaid: see the note below, or ask us
If you pay yourself
You pay by card at the visit. Health savings and flexible spending cards often work, and your plan administrator has the final say. The front desk tells you the fee on the phone and in writing before your first visit.
Receipts for reimbursement
After each visit we give you an itemized receipt, called a superbill, to send to your plan, which may reimburse part of the visit. The plan decides what it pays back, and the four questions below help you ask it.
An estimate in advance
We send a written Good Faith Estimate in advance to anyone paying without insurance. If a bill comes to $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it.
Checking your benefits
We cannot check your benefits for you, but the front desk will go through the four questions below with you before your first visit, and call you if anything changes.
What the first visit includes
About 75 minutes: a talk about your health and medicines, your pulse and tongue, a treatment and a plan. If herbs are part of the plan, the pharmacy tells you the cost of the formula before it is filled.
Your first visit
- Medicare covers acupuncture only for chronic low back pain, with set limits and under a qualified provider's supervision. Ask us what applies to you.
Four questions for your plan
Before you book, ask your plan
If your plan pays for out-of-network visits, these tell you what a receipt from us could earn back.
- 01
Is there an out-of-network acupuncture benefit?
Some plans cover it, some cover it with a referral, and some do not cover it.
- 02
How many visits does it cover?
Many plans set a limit for the year or for each condition.
- 03
Is there a copay, a deductible or a limit on what it pays?
Ask what you pay at each visit, and how much of your deductible is left.
- 04
Do I need a referral?
Some plans want a letter from your doctor first.
